How the figures on this site are checked
Every price, discount and rule links to where it came from and shows the date we last checked it.
The short version
We do not invent or estimate figures. Discounts and building rules come from the government or scheme page that sets them. Prices come from named Australian window companies, because no official body publishes window prices, and we label them as industry figures every time they appear.
Which sources do we use?
| Topic | Source | Labelled as |
|---|---|---|
| Victorian discounts | Victorian Energy Upgrades on energy.vic.gov.au | Official |
| Building code rules | Australian Building Codes Board, NatHERS, YourHome | Official |
| Victorian building law | Building and Plumbing Commission, Consumer Affairs Victoria | Official |
| Window energy labels | Window Energy Rating Scheme (run by the Australian Glass and Window Association) | Scheme source |
| Prices and U-values | Named window companies in Melbourne and Perth | Industry, installer-reported |
Why name the companies behind the prices?
Every price source on this site makes or sells windows. That does not make their figures wrong, but it matters when a uPVC maker compares uPVC with aluminium. Naming them lets you weigh that yourself.
How do we keep figures current?
Each figure carries an expiry date. Before every update we run a check that lists anything past that date, and we re-verify it at the source before it stays on the site. Discount programs change on published dates, so this matters more than anything else we do.
What do we leave out?
If we cannot find a figure on the official page, or on a named source we can link to, it is not on the site. That includes headline discount totals and business counts we could not confirm.
What this site is not
We are not a government agency and are not affiliated with Victorian Energy Upgrades, the Australian Building Codes Board, NatHERS or WERS. Nothing here is building, legal or financial advice. Eligibility for any discount is decided by the program, and compliance questions belong with a registered building surveyor.
How is the site paid for?
When you ask for quotes, we may pass your request to glazing businesses, and they may pay us for that introduction. That never changes the figures we publish.
